Ondine goes beyond the paint brush, using the tools of the sculptor to claw beneath the surface, digging down to the lower layers of the work to reveal the raw emotion beneath, then drawing that emotion out in the open where it is vulnerable to our view. Acrylic, metal and gauze are all integral to her creations, just as blood, flesh and bone are to the body.
A graduate of York University in Fine Arts in 1991, Ondine has steadily evolved as an artist from her teenage years, on to solid experience as a muralist and illustrator, to arrive at the works which make up Visceral, a breakthrough in the artistic representation of her thoughts and feelings that began with her 2008 exhibition Restorations on Paper.
Ondine, a private and group art teacher for over ten years, became a certified Yoga instructor in 2008. She maintains a strong connection between her painting and Yoga practice. Both pursuits are forms of meditation, each with its own mood, tone and colour. Through both, Ondine strives to evoke a sense of self and strength.
